One of the primary goals of the BHARP System of Care Project is to develop a trauma informed system of care. Early in the grant period BHARP member counties came together to determine the best approach to achieve this goal. Several prominent training organizations submitted proposals to provide trauma focused education based on the premise that everyone who touches the lives of children and families should be trained. Lakeside Global Institute was chosen as the training partner. That organization has provided training to thousands of people in the BHARP region including youth, families, social services personnel, law enforcement, first responders, schools, etc.
Another feature of the BHARP approach toward becoming trauma informed is to train clinical staff in trauma specific interventions so that, as the community and systems became more aware of trauma and individuals impacted by trauma, there would be treatment available. Trauma focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Seeking Safety were the identified clinical models for this training.
Each year a “Trauma Institute” is held bringing the community, system partners, families/youth and clinical providers together to share their progress and learn the latest research and approaches to becoming trauma informed. BHARP has been fortunate to bring Dr. Sandra Bloom and Dr. Bruce Perry to the BHARP region as cutting edge trauma experts to share their insights at the institutes.
